Metrobank-MTAP DepEd Math Challenge

The Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math Challenge (MMC) is an annual mathematical competition aimed at increasing elementary and high school students' competitiveness. It is the country's longest-running math competition, sponsored by the Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines (MTAP) and the Department of Education (DepEd), with over half a million students annually participating in the nationwide elimination rounds, which attract students from both private and public schools.

MMC is Asia's only math tournament sponsored by a bank. It gives an opportunity for Filipino students to develop their mathematical talents in a friendly competitive environment. It has produced national champions who have gone on to compete in and finally win international tournaments.

OBJECTIVES

This competition aims to:

• awaken greater interest in Mathematics among elementary and high school students in both private and public schools all over the country;

• encourage students to strive for excellence in Mathematics;

• encourage mastery of basic mathematical skills;

• discover mathematical talents among elementary and high school students; and

• provide students opportunities in leadership and cooperative undertaking.
